52 Final Bows is a collaboration between David Hallberg and choreographer Madeline Hollander that illuminates 52 distinct traditional bows and their unique, albeit subtle choreographies. The piece features bows from roles Hallberg has performed throughout his career, as well as signature bows associated with various choreographers, dance styles, schools and instructors that Hallberg has experienced first hand.

For Performa 19, Yvonne Rainer has created a contemporary version of her iconic 1965 work Parts of Some Sextets, a dance originally performed by 10 people and 12 mattresses, in collaboration with dancer and choreographer Emily Coates.

For Performa 19, Paul Pfeiffer presented his first live performance in collaboration with The Georgia Redcoat Marching Band from the University of Georgia in the Apollo Theater. Fifty Redcoat members—who normally perform during the breaks in play at UGA’s Sanford stadium, home of the Georgia Bulldogs football team—performed live in this legendary music venue, recreating a two-and-a-half-hour musical score from a typical college football game, using both front and back of house of the theatre as their performance space. Simultaneously, the rest of the 400 strong band performed the exact same musical score inside the empty Sanford Stadium in Athens, Georgia, and was live streamed into the Apollo, contrasting the architectures of stadium and theater.

Through live performance, film, photography, sculptural objects, musical scores, poetry, and archival materials, Judson Dance Theater: The Work Is Never Done traces the history of Judson Dance Theater both in and outside the church, from the workshops that took place there to other spaces around downtown New York.

For People Pie Pool Brian Belott immersed himself into the rebellious legacy of DADA, American standup comedy, the history of slapstick and vaudeville, He choreographs a comedy of simultaneity, paying homage to the work of Kurt Schwitters, the Marx Brothers, Andy Kaufman, Lenny Bruce and many others. Belott’s motley cast will include visual artists, comedians, property lawyers, SAT tutors, musicians, bingo players, tap dance teachers, basketball teams, sword swallowers and other assorted exhibitionists.

Loni Landon Dance Project performs original works featuring lush, innovative movement full of subtle detail and sophistication by Artistic Director Loni Landon, who aims to maintain a highly charged emotional current throughout every piece. 

LLDP presented two pieces during NY Quadrille: Rebuilding Sandcastles, which made its premiere at The Joyce Theater in February 2013 and the world premiere of FAST LOVE, a work which dissects the idea of connection as informed by our contemporaneously socialized selves with a live music performed by electric guitar quartet, composed by Jerome Begin.

The short film, directed by Kevin Hayden, inspired by a scene in Yvonne Rainer’s film Journeys from Berlin, portraits choreographer Stephen Petronio and revered film/dance artist Yvonne Rainer in conversation. During a boating expedition and over lunch, the two discuss “breaking through the palace gates” and the motivations and inspirations of their groundbreaking paths as well as the artists who influenced them, including their close friend and colleague Trisha Brown.

The screening will be followed by a special presentation of In the Steps of Trisha Brown (Dans les pas de Trisha Brown) by Marie-Helene Rebois and a Q & A with Lisa Kraus, restager for Trisha Brown Dance Company, and Carolyn Lucas, Associate Artistic Director of Trisha Brown Dance Company.
